Mentally Preparing for the Holidays

Holidays can be a very tough time of year for a lot of people for many different reasons.

Some may have experienced trauma at this specific time of year, missing a loved one, not having many family members, or family being too far away.

You feel as if the holidays can be a big reminder of what you don’t have.

Whatever it is for you, I know it’s not easy. It’s a painful and overwhelmingly sad feeling.

The best thing to do is first and foremost go easy on yourself. All these feelings and thoughts you are having are totally understandable. Be extra kind to yourself and give yourself all the extra love and self-care that you need.

Reach out to the people you do have in your life. Video chat if you can. Call them and talk to them.

Remember the sweet memories you have of your loved ones that have passed. Maybe do something special to remember them.

For the trauma, remind yourself that you’re safe. Use your coping skills, distract yourself with something you enjoy and that most importantly brings you peace. If need be, get some extra sessions in with your therapist. Get all the extra help that you need!

If you ever feel so alone, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me through my email linked on my website or directly through Instagram.
